Wonder

wonder-book

Welcome to a new series based on the book Wonder, the New York Times bestseller.

“August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial difference that prevented him from going to a mainstream school – until now. He’s about to enter fifth grade at Beecher Prep, and if you’ve ever been the new kid, then you know how hard that can be. The thing is Auggie’s just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he’s just like them, despite appearances?” (From the book jacket.)

This class is for advanced readers and speakers. Each week, students are assigned seven chapters to read, one chapter a day. Don’t worry, the chapters are short, averaging just one or two pages. During the week, students receive a handout and…

  1. Answer a warm-up question.
  2. Try to find five new vocabulary words in the story that are new to them. After looking-up and writing down the meaning, students use the word in an original sentence.
  3. Answer three questions about the week’s reading.
  4. Share their favorite part from the week’s reading.

In class, we discuss answers and the book.

Handouts (pdf format) These handouts cover the entire book.
